Now let me take you back to game #3 where I ‘may’ have talked up my HotStar Chris Gayle cheque presenting moment and that my congratulatory kiss ‘may’ lead to some good form for him.
Well his next game he hit 10 off 24 while attempting to chase down 208 and now he’s been dropped. Yep, one of the best T20 players in the world, the guy who along with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers was retained by RCB for a mint and has reportedly been valued at $15million per year for his T20 exploits…dropped! It might be a stretch to say I’ve brought down a million dollar empire but I’m just saying.
A few changes in the D Team as well with three new faces. Former New Zealand allrounder Scott Styris who was only on loan to the B team has joined us for the rest of the IPL. Somehow I have a feeling there will be more than enough Australia v New Zealand banter. David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd who on his arrival had us in stitches with his stories and outlook on life and all things cricket and a great friend Alan Wilkins. I first met Wilko at the 2009 women’s world cup in Sydney, the first time it was broadcast by the ICC. Fast forward 6 years and he’s been an amazing supporter and mentor for not only me but a lot of new commentators to the game including Lisa, Isa and Ebony Rainford-Brent.
Good timing having Wilko at this game as I completely stuffed up the pre match interviews. Got through a quick chat with Mike Hussey on all things Chennai and then a good get as Mitch Starc had just flown in from Australia and was about to take on Brendon McCullum in a world cup final rematch. Easy right? A mental blank and I blabbered something that made no real sense in trying to recover and thankfully Mitch jumped in and saved me. A poor first stint followed to continue the shocking form and I was starting to think I’d either cursed myself or Chris Gayle had returned the favour.
Final wash up was that RCB lost their third straight game at home, Ashish Nehra at 35 is proving age is no barrier taking 4/10 and at just 17 years of age Sarfaraz Khan debuted and has everyone talking.
And a happy birthday to Mike Haysman. Thanks for sharing your red!
